Image
3rd-5th April 2025 The three days visiting El Planeron was simply amazing, although I didn't see any Sandgrouse but there was plenty of other goodies including two groups of Dotterel  on the same day with just over fifty present.   Other unexpected species here were a Black Tern , three Whiskered Tern on the 4th. Dupont's Lark were heard regularly and glimpsed a couple of times but not seen well. Other notable species seen here; Quail , Purple Heron , Booted Eagle , Golden Eagle , Hoopoe , Iberian Grey Shrike , Calandra, Lesser Short-toed Lark , Calandra Lark , Western Bonelli's Warbler , Western Subalpine Warbler , Western Black-eared Wheatear.

Duponts Lark at La Lomaza

After failing to satisfactorily see a Dupont's Lark at El Planeron, I thought I'd stop off at La Lomaza on my way North.  After more than an hour hearing all species of larks and giving up on ever seeing a Dupont's one was suddenly singing at low altitude right by me!   Other species there today; Red-billed Chough , Greater and Lesser Short-toed lark, Spotless Starling .
